Registration Holds
Retaking Courses—The Graduate School discourages the retaking of courses to improve grades. If a course is retaken, appropriate tuition and fees will be assessed. All registrations and grades for the course remain on the student's transcript and are calculated into the cumulative GPA.
Holds will be placed on your account for the reasons listed below. In order to have any of these holds removed, please see Linda Jagerson, 4-178K or contact her via email at jager001@umn.edu or by phone at 612.625-3564.
Grade Point average does not meet minimum Department GPA requirements.
- MSEE: Your cumulative GPA has fallen below 3.0
- PhD: Your cumulative GPA has fallen below 3.3
You are late in submitting Graduate School forms
- Degree Program form
- Thesis Proposal form
You are late or past the deadline for taking exams
- PhD Written Preliminary Exam
- PhD Oral Preliminary Exam
You have registered for Grad 999
- We place a hold every semester you register for Grad 999 so that we can talk with you to verify your active status.
- You should not register for Grad 999 more than once a year.
- International students should not register for Grad 999 in order to work off-campus
